In 2020, the top exporters of Ginger were China with 613 million dollars in export revenue, the Netherlands with 75.1 million dollars in export revenue, Thailand with 62.5 million dollars in export earnings, Peru with 44.6 million dollars, and India with overall ginger export valued at 44.5 million dollars.

Recall that in the previous video about top importers, we mentioned that in 2020, the United States led the pack with 117 million dollars in import value, the Netherlands with 107 million dollars expended on importation of the commodity, Japan with 84.3 million dollars, and Pakistan with 78.6 million dollars expended on ginger importation.

Top 10 Ginger Importing Countries

Before we delve into the main topic of top ginger exporting countries, let's quickly take a glance at the top producers of the commodity globally.

Please note that local production does not equate with exportation as we will see that some of the biggest producers of ginger do not fall into the category of top exporters.

Leading the pack when it comes to the largest producers of ginger is India.

India's Ginger Production increased 8.7 percent year on year in 2019. Grenada witnessed the best average annual growth at +210.4 percent per year. Trinidad and Tobago witnessed the worst performance at -58.1 percent a year. China, Nigeria, and Nepal respectively ranked number 2, 3, and 4 in this ranking of the top producers of ginger.

The key economic indicator for the global ginger industry are :

Since 2019, India's Ginger Production jumped by 11.5 percent compared to the previous year.

India has been ranked number 1 in Ginger Production since 2020. a position they still hold to date.

Since 2014 Nigeria's Ginger Production was up by 17.4 percent annually. The west African giant produces close to an average of 375,305 Metric Tons annually.

In 2019 Pakistan made significant progress in their local ginger production making them rank number 34 in Ginger Production reaching 52 Metric Tons, compared to 37 in 2018.

According to external trade statistics of 103 countries, In 2020, the world exports of Ginger exceeded 979 million dollars. It was 875 million dollars in 2019 according to merchandise trade statistics of 116 countries.

The world's largest exporter of this commodity is China. China is solely responsible for 58 percent of the world's ginger exports valued at 613 million dollars in export revenue.

The Netherlands is the second-largest exporter valued at 75.1 million dollars. The Netherlands is responsible for 10.8 percent of global ginger exports.

Thailand is the third biggest exporter contributing 5.69 percent to the global export of the commodity which is valued at 62.5 million dollars

India sits at the number fourth spot contributing 4.54 percent to the global export of ginger with a value of 44 million dollars.

Peru is the fifth largest exporter of ginger with an export rate valued at 41 million dollars which accounts for 4.23 percent of the global export of ginger.

According to statistics provided by the major exporters, the largest export flows of ginger in 2019 were exports from China to Bangladesh which makes accounts for 5.12 percent of the world exports valued at 50 million dollars.

Exports from China to Japan are valued at 48 million dollars which are 4.94 percent of the overall global export.

Exports from China to Malaysia make up 3.21 percent of the world exports valued at 31 million dollars.

Exports from China to the Netherlands amount to 8.07 percent of the world exports valued at 79 million dollars.

Exports from China to Pakistan are responsible for 5.79 percent of the world exports valued at 56 million dollars.

Exports from China to Saudi Arabia account for 2.51 percent of the world exports valued at 24 million dollars

Exports from China to the United Arab Emirates make up 3.53 percent of the world exports valued at 34 million dollars.

Exports from China to the USA are 6.5 percent of the world exports and are valued at 64 million dollars.

Exports from China to Vietnam make up 3.17 percent of the world exports valued at 31 million dollars.

Exports from the Netherlands to Germany are responsible for 3.26 of the world exports valued at 31 million dollars.
