Thailand exported food products valued at 420 billion baht from January to April, a 6.3% increase year-on-year (YoY). This growth in Thai food exports is attributed to increased global demand and higher prices as drought conditions affected harvests in other countries. The top two markets for Thai food exports this year are China and ASEAN, with fresh fruits, rice, and sugar seeing the biggest increase in export value.

However, exports of Thai cassava, pineapple, and tuna fell in value due to increased costs, raw material shortages, and sluggish demand from major importers like the US, Europe, China, and Japan. Overall, Thai food exports are projected to reach 1.55 trillion baht in 2023, a 5.5% increase from the previous year, as the country benefits from trading partners’ concerns over food security and the relatively stable baht-dollar exchange rate.
