The Kazakh government has approved a plan to increase domestic poultry production by 200,000 tonnes through 2026 by expanding four major poultry producers. This move aims to put an end to the decade-long dependence on foreign poultry supplies, primarily from the United States.
[1][2][3][4] The plan is expected to boost Kazakh poultry production in the long run, though in the short term, the country may face a possible shortage in the domestic market due to continuing turbulence in neighboring Russia, which currently supplies 13% of Kazakhstan’s poultry imports. [4] The Kazakh poultry producers have been urging the authorities for years to restrict imports to give them a chance to scale up operations, and the government now appears to be heeding their calls.
