Thailand has solidified its position as the world's leading exporter of canned tuna. In the first five months of 2024, Thailand exported 221,092 tons of canned tuna worth $978.58 million, representing a 19.39% increase in volume and 13.4% growth in value compared to the same period last year.
Thailand's canned tuna exports are primarily destined for major markets like the United States, Japan, Australia, Libya, and Saudi Arabia, where it holds significant market shares. This export success is attributed to Thailand's robust production capabilities, adherence to international standards, and strategic geographic location for sourcing raw materials and distribution. The Thai tuna industry's recovery is also reflected in the 37.6% surge in pet food exports derived from canned tuna by-products.
