Malaysia is set to begin exporting fresh durians to China starting in the third quarter of 2024, according to the country's Agriculture and Food Security Minister. This comes after Malaysia and China signed a protocol covering the phytosanitary (plant health) requirements for exporting fresh durians to the Chinese market.
[1][2][4] Previously, Malaysia had only exported frozen durians to China, but the new agreement will allow for shipments of fresh "king of fruits" to meet the growing demand in China.[2][5] Malaysian durian producers must ensure their products meet the necessary biosecurity standards in order to start exporting fresh durians to China by September or October 2024.[2][5]
