Moldova has abolished the import licensing regime for grains and oilseeds that was introduced in December 2023 for a 3-month period. The licensing requirement had been put in place to stabilize domestic grain prices and protect local producers, who were facing low prices due to competition from cheap Ukrainian imports.

However, the measure was lifted after the 3-month period, as Moldova likely determined that the licensing was no longer necessary to support its grain market. This reversal highlights the temporary nature of the import restrictions and Moldova's efforts to balance the interests of local farmers with maintaining an open trade environment.
