Turkey has imposed export restrictions on chicken meat, including whole chicken and its cuts, in an effort to safeguard domestic supply and consumer welfare. The Ministry of Commerce has limited poultry exports to a maximum of 10,000 metric tons per month from May 1 to December 31, 2024, and 80,000 metric tons in total by the end of the year.
This move comes in response to increasing prices in the domestic market, with poultry meat inflation reaching 107% within one year. The rising costs of feed and energy, as well as changes in consumption habits, have contributed to these speculative price increases, prompting the government to take action to protect the local market.
