Turkey’s Scrap Metal Imports Surge to 6.83 Million Tons in January-April Period

In the January-April period, Turkey increased its scrap metal imports to 6.83 million tons, up 2.5 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. The value of these imports also increased by 16.9 percent month-on-month and 47.7 percent year-on-year to $749.13 million in January alone.

Turkey’s top scrap import destinations in January were the US with 356,249 mt, followed by the Netherlands with 274,205 mt and Belgium with 240,913 mt. This trend reflects a shift in the global scrap metal import landscape, with Turkey emerging as the leading importer in 2023, surpassing other major players like India, the US, and Bangladesh[1][2][4][5].
