Russia's grain export shipments declined by 18% from May 1 to May 20, 2024, compared to the same period last year[1][2]. During this period, Russia shipped 3.394 million tons of grain for export[1][2]. Wheat shipments were affected, with a year-over-year decrease of more than 40% since the start of the current marketing year in July[4].

The existing export curbs have reduced Russia's wheat exports significantly[4]. Russia also banned white and raw sugar exports until August 31[4]. The partial ban on grain exports to members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), excluding those subject to existing quotas and taxes, is expected to further squeeze global wheat supplies[4].
