A former Member of Parliament has appealed to the government to reduce taxes on agro inputs, citing the need to alleviate the burden on farmers and boost agricultural productivity. The former MP emphasized that taxation on agricultural inputs is a significant cost for farmers, which can stifle their growth and adversely affect the economy.

He urged the government to review the current tax regime to remove taxes that are stifling private sector growth in the agricultural sector. The former MP also highlighted the importance of creating a conducive environment for businesses in the country, particularly in the agricultural sector, to realize the country’s aspiration of becoming a leading player within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
