The Environment Advisor has clarified that hilsa fish from Bangladesh is not being gifted but is being exported to India, particularly ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.

The government has approved the export of 3,000 tonnes of hilsa, which constitutes less than 0.5% of the total production, to strengthen bilateral relations with India. This decision reflects a balance between meeting domestic demand and fostering goodwill with neighboring countries, despite previous statements emphasizing the need to prioritize local supply.
