The value of U.S. pork exports reached its highest level in nearly three years in March 2024, soaring to $70.85 per head slaughtered, up 12% from a year ago. This pushed the first quarter average to $64.25, up 7% year-over-year[5]. The strong export value was driven by robust global demand, with increases to key markets like Mexico, South Korea, Colombia, Central America and Australia.

Despite a slight decline in shipments to Mexico in March due to the earlier timing of Easter, the overall pork export volume remained steady with last year at 260,430 metric tons, valued at $740.8 million, up 2%[5]. The excellent first quarter performance, with exports up 6% in volume to 762,784 mt and 7% in value to $2.11 billion, underscores the importance of export market diversification for the U.S. pork industry[5].
