China's Ministry of Commerce has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of polyformaldehyde copolymer (POM copolymer), a widely used engineering chemical, from the European Union, United States, Japan, and Taiwan[1][2][3][4][5]. The probe will cover imports from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, and investigate any damage to China's domestic POM copolymer industry from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023[3].

POM copolymer has diverse applications in industries such as automotive parts, electronics, medical equipment, and construction materials[3]. The investigation was initiated after six Chinese producers alleged "clear dumping" of imported POM copolymer, causing "substantial harm" to the local industry[1].

The announcement comes amid escalating trade tensions between China and the EU, as well as the US. The EU recently launched an anti-dumping probe into tin-plated or coated flat-rolled iron or steel products from China[1], while the US proposed new tariffs on various Chinese exports[1]. China has warned of potential countermeasures targeting European industries like wine, dairy, and aircraft[1].

The anti-dumping investigation is expected to conclude by May 19, 2025, but may be extended for six months under special circumstances[3].
