Greece has experienced a significant increase in fruit and vegetable imports during the first half of 2024. According to data from the Association of Greek Export Companies for Fruits, Vegetables, and Juices, imports of these products rose by 12.49% compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching 420,525 tons[1][4].

The surge was driven by higher imports of potatoes, apples, tomatoes, and oranges[2][3]. Experts have attributed this trend to growing foreign competition in the Greek market and have called for imported produce to meet the same quality standards as EU-produced goods to ensure fair competition[2][3].
